Two members of Edul@b participate in the seminar “Strengthening skills for the 21st century at PUCV” in Valparaíso
During the 1st and 2nd of June, Dr. Montse Guitert and Dr. Teresa Romeu participated in the seminar “Strengthening skills for the 21st century in the PUCV” at the Central House of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, in the framework of the institutional project UCV 20101, “Strategy for strengthening 21st century skills with the intensive use of ICT”.
On Wednesday 1 June 2022, the Seminar “Strengthening skills for the 21st century at the PUCV” was held at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, promoted by the Academic Vice-Rectory of the PUCV. The seminar was held in hybrid mode on Thursday 2 June 2022 at the Central House of the PUCV from 9:15 am, an instance in which a space for exchange and reflection was generated around the challenges and opportunities arising from the skills of the XXI Century for higher education. The seminar took place within the framework of the institutional project UCV 20101, “Strategy for strengthening the skills of the 21st century with the intensive use of ICT” and in a complementary way with the INNES 19101 project, “Innovation in the Institutional Educational Model as a manifestation of the commitment of the PUCV with comprehensive and quality training”.
Following this line, two members of the Edul@b group, and professors at the Universitat Oberta Catalunya: Dr. Montse Guitert and Dr. Teresa Romeu, were invited to participate in the presentation on the scope and the various dimensions involved in digital competences and skills for the 21st century in the digital context of this university. They also analysed how to orientate and promote the eight competences of the PUCV’s Fundamental Training in a digital way. Their presentation focused on the development of transversal competences for students through the transformative potential of information and communication technologies. Other topics covered in the seminar included the conceptual framework on digital transformation, the way in which the pandemic highlighted certain challenges and opportunities in this area, the general frameworks for promoting employability and the importance of digital competences for 21st century professionals as a complement to the PUCV educational model, in an instance in which the public expressed their doubts and comments to the two experts.
Dr. Teresa Romeu highlighted as a very interesting fact to be able to “share with other universities outside our country, because the visions of each person are shared, as well as the knowledge of each institution and also to analyse how digital competences can be integrated into the core competences of the PUCV”.
In parallel, as part of the PUCV 20101 and INNES 19101 projects, on Friday 3 June the two UOC professors met via Zoom with several academics from different universities in the country, members of the Inter-University Network for Digital Learning. This meeting was part of the complementary activities to their participation in the seminar “Strengthening Skills for the 21st Century at the PUCV”. The objective was to present their work on how 21st century skills can be amplified through digital competences.
Dr. Montse Guitert and Dr. Teresa Romeu also addressed the UOC’s educational model based on 100% online teaching, European projects and various reference frameworks on digital competences, delving into how these enhance the development of 21st century skills, the dialogue between new technologies and the PUCV’s Fundamental Training competences.
Dr. Montse Guitert expressed her gratitude to the PUCV and the Network’s working team: “we are very happy for the welcome and we continue to look for new opportunities to continue cooperating together”, she said.
