Virtual Reality Project Led by Edulab Presented at Mobile World Congress 2024
The project “Virtual Reality for the generation of immersive learning situations. A critical look at the built environment” led by the Edul@b research group of the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya was presented as part of the event promoted by mSchools Changing Education Together 2024 as part of the latest edition of Mobile World Congress, held in Barcelona from February 26 to 29, 2024.
This project is a digital innovation initiative that aims to support educational centers and teachers in the design, development and evaluation of interdisciplinary immersive projects that, taking advantage of virtual reality and network collaboration, contribute to the development of a critical look at the built space, sensitive to people’s needs and committed to the collective aspirations of sustainability and equity.
The aim is to contribute to the digital transformation of educational centers through support in the design, development and evaluation of interdisciplinary immersive projects capable of influencing the organizational culture of the centers and the established conceptions of pedagogical practice. To develop the immersive projects, each school has received digital material, training for its use and support in the generation of immersive 360 tours that, in the end, will be integrated into a digital repository shared with all the centers.
The project also aims to generate a network of collaboration between cultural centers and entities for the promotion and sustainability of their digital transformation. These participating entities promoting the project are Edul@b, Fundació Mies van der Rohe, Fundació Joan Miró, Globus Vermell and Immersim Estudio.
As part of the mSchools initiative, one of the seven immersive projects that are being carried out during this year 23-24 in Primary Education, ESO, Baccalaureate and Training Centers, which participate in this initiative, has been presented: “Discovering Castellet. Immersive learning situations. A critical look at the built environment” of IES Castellet.
Discovering Castellet is an invitation to explore and spread the history and architectural elements of the monumental complex of Castellet de Sant Vicenç, through the creation of immersive learning situations in art and creativity generated with cameras for recording in 360 with Immersium Studio support. Students can experiment in virtual environments that simulate built spaces and represent them with critical vision. The project, with the support of the Mies van der Rohe Foundation and the Joan Miró Foundation, offers students the opportunity to develop a reflection on the relationship between physical space, people’s needs and the design of solutions creative
