Main researcher of Edul@b

PhD in Educational Sciences from the University of Barcelona, specializing in new technologies; Degree in Education at the University of Barcelona.

From its beginnings (1995), she has been a lecturer at the UOC, in the area of Digital Competences in the Studies of Psychology and Educational Sciences as well as in the Master’s in Education and ICT (e-learning).

She also has been professor (1992-2000) in the Faculty of Psychology and Educational and Sports Sciences (Blanquerna) at the Ramon Llull University, where she taught different subjects related to the Educational Technology area and Qualitative Research within the Doctoral programme.

Her research focuses on ICT uses in education and training and, particularly, online collaboration, online teacher training and Digital Competences. She has coordinated some projects in these areas. She has published several articles and participated in international conferences and workshops in her research areas.

She has received the Jaume Vicens Vives 2016 Distinction from the Generalitat for the leadership in online training on digital skills in the university environment and its impact on citizens.

Nati Cabrera



PhD in Education from the University of Barcelona, Department of Teaching and Educational Organization; Degree in Law at the same institution. She has obtained several diplomas in teacher training and educational methodologies through ICT.

Professor of Psychology and Educational Sciences. Associate professor in the Department of Teaching and Educational Organization of the Faculty of Education at the University of Barcelona (2012, today), teaching education and ICT subjects in teacher training programs.

At the Open University of Catalonia she has carried out different roles as: Project Coordinator of the strategic area of methodology and educational innovation (2002-04), Director of Operational Methodology and Educational Innovation (2005-07), Director of the Support Unit for European Higher Education Area (2007-08) and Academic Coordinator of the School for Cooperation at the UOC (2009-12). Currently, she is actively involved in the innovation commission and good practices in Practicum commission, both of Psychology and Educational Sciences, as well as in projects for teacher training in assessment and feedback.

She has developed and directed numerous research projects related to the use of ICT in education, at national and international level, and she has directed numerous research projects related to the Master in education and ICT and Secondary Teacher Training. She has also developed multiple educational materials, most of them oriented in university teaching through ICT.

Her research focuses on models of organization, management and leadership on e-learning, educational assessment, especially the e-assessment and feedback processes, and the impact of training using ICT, from the educational, economical and social perspective.

Deputy Dean of Teaching and Associate Professor at the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC). She teaches courses of the Master’s degree in Education and ICT. PhD in Educational Sciences, University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). 

Researcher within the eLearn Center (E-Learning Research, Innovation and Training Centre) at UOC and member of the Edul@b Research Group. Her main areas of research are techno-pedagogical design and Learning Design, Technology Enhanced Learning, Educational Technology, Teacher Training, e-Portfolios, e-Assessment and teaching models related to the use of digital technologies in different educational contexts.

She has participated and coordinated various research and innovation projects both nationally and internationally, among them and recently; CRISS (K-12 digital competence assessment and certification), EPICA (near graduation employability skills), AMED (transforming university model to blended learning), European SLP’s for continuous professional development and lifelong learningECO4LEARN (K-12 teachers learning ecologies), eFeedSkills (technology scaffolded regulatory skills in undergraduate students, using Chatbots and Learning Analytics).

She has been working at the UOC since 1996 with different roles: as a Director of the of Multimedia Instruccional Design Department and as Innovation Projects Coordinator in the Strategic Area of Methodology and Educational Innovation. Between years 1991 and 1996 she worked as a professor at the School of Teachers of the University of Barcelona first and at the University of Pompeu Fabra, later.

Since 2014 she is Chair of the European expert group on Curriculum development & Course design of EADTU (European Association of Distance Teaching Universities); since 2013 founder member of the European Network of ePortfolio Experts & Practitioners. She has advised over 20 years international institutions, on both Latin American and Anglo-Saxon models on the implementation of online education.

Marcelo Maina

PhD in the Information and Knowledge Society Programme  from the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya; Master in Communication Sciences from Université de Montreal (Canada), and BA in Communications and Education from Universidad Nacional de Entre Ríos (Argentina).

Associate professor of Educational Technology at the  Faculty of Psychology and Education Science at UOC, he is the Director of the Master in Education and ICT (e-learning) and related e-learning programs.

Researcher of the Edul@b research group (UOC). He has participated in numerous European projects regarding technologies, education, and lifelong learning. His research encompasses such topics as learning ecologies, learning design methods and tools, emerging digital pedagogies, personalized learning, and open education.  On these and other related subjects he has made presentations at international conferences and published articles and book chapters. He has been invited to several conferences in Latin America and published his research in conference proceedings, journal articles, and book chapters.

He serves on numerous committees (e.g., International Seminar UNESCO Chair in Education and Technology for Social Change) and review panels (e.g., International Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning). He has participated in conference scientific committees (e.g., Annual Conference European Distance Education Network), as well as a reviewer in teaching innovation symposiums (e.g., International Symposium of University Teaching).

Marc Romero


PhD in Education at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (2008). Master in Information Society and Desing of virtual learning environments (URV).

Professor at the Studies of Psychology and Sciences of the Education at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC), ICT competences’ course coordinator. He also is a member of the Edul@b research group within the eLearn Center (UOC), and the Collaborative Learning in Virtual Environtments Network (RACEV, in spanish), coordinated by Montse Guitert.

He has been also associate professor (2000-2007) of the Educational Science and Psychology faculty at Universitat Rovira i Virgili, were he taught the “New Technologies applied to Education” course in the teachers training program. He was teacher in several postgraduate workshops and courses.

His research focuses on the Educational Technology and E-learning and more specifically on the students’ ICT skills and the collaborative work in virtual environments. He has participated in conferences and workshops in his area of expertise.

He was previously a member of the FOCONNET research group (URV).

Teresa Romeu

Pedagogue (UAB, 1987), Master in Information and Knowledge Society (UOC, 2005) and Doctor in Information and Knowledge Society (UOC, 2011). From 1987 to 1991 she worked as a researcher in the Department of Applied Pedagogy at the UAB. Later she is head of studies in Distance Education Center (Ceac, 1991 to 1999).

Since 2000 she is a professor at the UOC, in the area of ​​Digital Competences in the Studies of Psychology and Education Sciences, coordinating the subjects of “ICT Competences” in the degrees of Humanities, Social Sciences, Anthropology and Human Evolution Degrees, History, Geography And Art, Business Administration and Management, Marketing and Tourism. She is also a teacher of the Master of Education and ICT, coordinating the Online Teaching itinerary. Since 2009, she is a researcher at the Edul@b research group, a consolidated research group (SGR1174) on Education and ICT.

Her field of research focuses on e-learning and more specifically on collaborative work in network, online teaching and the use and application of digital technologies in different fields and educational levels. She has developed innovation projects in the conceptualization of multimedia didactic resources on digital competences. She has participated in national and international invited papers and is an evaluator in scientific journals of her area of ​​experience

Albert Sangrà

He’s got an European Ph.D. in Education at the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Spain). Postgraduate in Applications of Information Technology in ODE at The Open University of the UK, and Diploma on Strategic Use of IT in Education at Harvard University. BA in Education at the Universitat de Barcelona.

Academic Director of the UNESCO Chair in Technology and Education for Social Change at the Open University of Catalonia. He is a researcher at the Edul@b research group and full professor at the Psychology and Educational Sciences Department.

At the UOC, he has served as Director, Methodology and Educational Innovation until 2004, being in charge of the educational model of the university; Director of the M.Sc. program in Education and ICT (e-learning) (2006-2012), and Director of the eLearn Center (2012-2014).

His main research interests are ICT uses in education and training and, particularly, the policies, organization, management and leadership of e-learning implementation, and its quality assurance, and the professional development for online teaching. He has played the role of consultant in several online education and training projects in Europe, America, Australia and Asia, focusing on implementation strategies for the use of technology in teaching and learning and its quality, and he has also served as a consultant for the World Bank Institute.

He is the recipient of the 2015 Award for Excellence in eLearning awarded by the World Education Congress, and he has also recently acknowledged as EDEN Senior Fellow by the European Distance and E-learning Network (June 2015).

He has been Vice-President for the European Foundation for Quality in E-Learning (EFQUEL) (2011-2014), and member of the Executive Committee of the European Distance and E-learning Network (EDEN) (2003-2009). He also served in the Advisory Board of the Portugal’s Universidade Aberta. He currently is a member of the International Advisory Committee of TELSC (Technology Enhanced Learning and Societal Challenges) PhD Program, led by the University of Lisboa, University of Aveiro and University of Minho in Portugal.

He serves as evaluator for the Italian National Agency of Universities Evaluation (ANVUR) and the Estonian National Agency for Quality in Higher Education (EKKA), as well as member of the Editorial Board of several indexed academic journals.

Josep Maria Mominó

Teacher, PhD in Pedagogy and Master in Pedagogical Research from Ramon Llull University. He has worked as a teacher in the different stages of Primary and Secondary Education (1983/1995).

Since 1995, he has been a professor of Psychology and Educational Sciences at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, where he has been the director of the Psychopedagogy Program and also of the Studies of Psychology and Educational Sciences.

He has focused his research activity, fundamentally, on the analysis of the process of integration of ICT in schools, colliding and collaborating in research projects that have studied the dynamics of this process, first within the framework of the Catalan education system, in the non-university field, and then in the whole of Spain, without losing sight of the contrast of this process in the international context. His publications (articles, research reports, and books) have reflected the results of these projects.

He has developed his teaching activity, first in the second cycle of Psychopedagogy and in the Pedagogical Qualification Course: Master’s Degree in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (UPF), later in the Master’s Degree in Teacher Training. Secondary Education (UOC / UPF), in the Postgraduate Degree in Leadership and School Management, in the Master’s Degree in Psychopedagogy, in the Master’s Degree in Education and ICT and, currently also in the Degree in Primary Education, which has begun to offer the UOC.

Josep M Duart

Doctor in Pedagogy from Ramon Llull University in Barcelona and Master in Business Administration (MBA) from ESADE Business School. Degree in History and master’s degree from the University of Barcelona. Professor of Educational Technology and Educational Leadership at the UOC. He has been Vice-Rector for Postgraduate Studies and Continuing Education at the UOC (2007-2013). He is currently the Director of the UOC’s Postgraduate Degree in Leadership and School Management

He is an expert researcher in the field of educational organization and e-learning and directs and collaborates in research projects focused on educational policies and leadership in higher education and the use of ICT. He has directed and participated in research projects related to the educational use of ICT. He has published several books, including “The Ethical Organization of the School and the Transmission of Values” (1999), “Learning in Virtuality” (2000); “The University on the Net” (2008) and “Transforming Use of Digital Technologies in Education” (2020). He has published numerous scientific articles in international impact journals ( Founder and director of the UOC’s UNESCO Chair in E-learning in the period 2002-2009.

Co-director and founder of the International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education, ( an arbitrated scientific journal in the field of e-learning, Q1 in JCR and Scopus. President of EDEN ( and of the University of the Future Network (, an international network of researchers on the future of higher education and coordinator of REDUNETE (, a network of Colombian universities for the use of technology in education.

Juliana E. Raffaghelli

My research has been initially focused on educational internationalization processes, discussing its impact on the professional development and identity of the engaged participants. I have worked on national (Italy) and international teacher education projects in Latin America, Balkans, Turkey, Europe, where I have followed the dynamics of learning along international projects of mobility as well as the interactions between teachers of different cultural backgrounds within digital environments.

In the last 5 years I have focused on the processes of opening up education and science, in connection to the problem of faculty development for the modernization of higher education. More specifically, I am analyzing the problems of data literacy and the use of closed and open data models for the improvement of educational processes.

His research focuses on the use of new technologies in the education and communication fields and more specifically in the opportunities of social media for learning and professional development.

Federica Mancini

PhD in the Information and Knowledge Society Programme from the UOC; Bachelor of Science in Education from the University degli Studi di Firenze; Master in Multimedia Content Design (RAI – Radio Televisione Italiana) and various specializations in cultural and social media marketing communication.

She has participated in several European research and innovation projects, in the Vast-lab Laboratories and in the I Care del Polo Universitario Città di Prato and the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC). She is currently working with the research group Edul@b.

Her research focuses on the use of social media for communication of cultural and educational content and more specifically in participatory strategies that foster the transmission of knowledge.

She has published different articles and participated in international conferences and workshops in her research areas.

Pablo Baztán

Research assistant.

Ph.D. in Education at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) with a thesis on the Secondary Teacher Training in collaborative projects, Master in Research in Education (UAB) and Bachelor in Theoretical Physics (UB).

He has worked as a secondary school teacher for almost twenty years, always generating and collaborating on innovation projects.

As education coordinator for the network of researchers Marine Science For Society, he participates in different initiatives linked to the joint and participatory creation of knowledge.

He collaborates as a tutor in End-of-Master’s Work at the International University of La Rioja (UNIR) and teaches courses at the Toulouse Business School (TBS) in Barcelona.

Its main lines of research focus on the interdisciplinary and transversal generation of knowledge and on teacher training as a vehicle for innovation and change.
