Second meeting of the DIGITAsia project in Maldives

The DIGITAsia (Digital Transformation in Asian Higher Education) project, co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ program, brought together its international partners from October 28 to 30, 2025, in Malé (Maldives) to hold the second in-person project meeting.

The sessions were held at the headquarters of the three universities in Maldives that are part of the consortium (The Maldives National University – MNU), Islamic University of Maldives – IUM) and Villa College Maldives – VCM) and allowed sharing the first results and deliverables after the first year of project implementation. The meeting was also attended by the European partners (University of Zagreb – FOI and UOC), the universities in Sri Lanka (SLTCampus and University of Peradenyia – UoP) and the universities in Malaysia (Universiti Teknologi Malaysia UTM and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia – UKM).

The team from the Open University of Catalonia, formed by researchers Dr. Marcelo Maina, Dr. Nati Cabrera and Dr. Lourdes Guàrdia from the Edul@b Research Group, and researcher Dr. Ariadna Angulo from the MISS group, presented the Digital Teaching Transformation Framework for the digital transformation of teaching and learning, developed within the framework of WP5. In addition, they participated in the facilitation of the Capstone Project Workshop, the last activity of a training course for trainers from Asian universities, in which 54 trainers participated.

Finally, attendees at the UOC meeting organized a discussion group with representatives of the participating institutions to evaluate the usefulness of a Course Quality Scorecard (CQS) developed within WP5 as a tool to support faculty in improving courses, reflecting on professional development, and identifying institutional needs for quality teaching. The conclusions obtained will serve to adjust and enrich the materials and tools that will be developed in the next phase of the project.

The meeting strengthened cooperation between the participating institutions and laid the foundations for the implementation of the pilots and the evaluation of the results of the training programs. The next in-person meeting of the DIGITAsia consortium will take place at the UOC (Open University of Catalonia), in Barcelona, ​​at the end of 2026.
