Edul@b participates in the “International Congress of Education for a Globalized World” at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso de Chile

Researchers from the Edul@b Research Group, Dr. Josep M. Duart and Dr. Marc Romero, have participated in the International Congress of Education for a Globalized World (CIE-2025) organized by the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV) in Chile, on October 13 and 14, 2025. The objective of this congress has been to become a meeting point for educational leaders, teachers and researchers from around the world to debate the great current challenges: inclusion, sustainability, new technologies and social justice in the field of education.

Dr. Josep M. Duart presented the paper entitled “Education in the era of AI: challenges and opportunities” through which he analyzed how artificial intelligence is redefining teaching and learning processes. Similarly, educational models need to be rethinked so that they adapt to the possibilities offered by new technologies thanks to a digital transformation process adapted to each institution and context.

On the other hand, Dr. Marc Romero reflected on the ethical and pedagogical branch of AI in the field of higher education under the title “Generative Artificial Intelligence and Higher Education: Digital Competence as an ethical and pedagogical response”. He also highlighted the importance of developing digital competences that allow for ethical and responsible use of new technologies. At the same time, these competences will allow us to obtain a better pedagogical experience and results for both teachers and students.

ETHE journal, at the forefront of research in technology and education

During the first day of CIE-2025, the rector of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso (PUCV), Mr. Nelsón Vásquez Lara, presented the scientific journal International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education (ETHE). PUCV is one of the leading international institutions associated with ETHE, together with Dublin City University (DCU) in Ireland, Guizhou University (GZU) in China and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).

The scientific journal ETHE is led by Dr. Josep M. Duart and Dr. Marc Romero from the Open University of Catalonia. Last year the journal celebrated 20 years, becoming the number 1 journal in education according to the Journal Citation Reports (JCR).
