First In-Person Meeting of the DIGITAsia Project in Sri Lanka

The DIGITAsia (Digital Transformation in Asian Higher Education) project, co-funded by the European Union’s Erasmus+ Programme, held its first in-person project meeting on 12, 13 and 14 February 2025 in Sri Lanka. The event was hosted by the Sri Lanka Technology Campus (SLTC) in Colombo and the University of Peradeniya (UoP), in Kandy.

The project brings together nine universities from Croatia (University of Zagreb, project coordinator), Maldives, Sri Lanka, Spain and Malaysia, with the aim of promoting the digital transformation of education in these Asian countries.

During this meeting, members of Edul@b and professors from the UOC’s Psychology and Educational Sciences Departments, Prof. Marcelo Maina, Prof. Nati Cabrera, Prof. Lourdes Guàrdia and Prof. Ariadna Angulo, from the MISS (Measuring and Improving Student Success) research group, participated by presenting the WP5 on Transforming Digital Teaching (under the responsibility of the UOC) and coordinating a workshop session to raise awareness of digital transformation and the quality of teaching. In addition, they facilitated working groups to define the contents of the training of trainers and teachers, necessary to carry out the digital transformation of teaching and learning.

The experience was very enriching, since, through collaborative work and taking into account the different academic and cultural contexts, proposals adapted to their needs were developed.

The next steps, led by the UOC, consist of creating a reference framework and a toolkit for the digital transformation of teachers, with an emphasis on the principles of education 5.0 and the quality of courses. Work is also underway to co-create training modules based on these ideas, with a data-informed and AI-assisted learning design approach, using an original design support tool developed for this purpose. An initial training of trainers (train the trainers) is planned, which will be discussed during the next face-to-face meeting at the end of the year in the Maldives. This constitutes a preliminary step for the training of teachers in a hybrid modality, with an applied orientation.
