The UOC and the Edul@b research group organise the FIET 2019 seminar about Artificial Intelligence in education

The Edul@b research group and the Open University of Catalonia (UOC) are the organizers of this year’s edition of the Fòrum Internacional d’Educació i Tecnologia (FIETxs2019) that will take place on May 30 at the Colegio Oficial de Agentes Comerciales de Barcelona (COACB).

With the title “Artificial Intelligence in Education“, this edition of FIETxs2019 aims to reflect and make transformative proposals based on the results of the research and the evidences that research gives us, given that the evolution of technology and, specifically, Artificial Intelligence places us in front of new scenarios that from the educational environments we have to analyse to propose our actions in relation to the future of education.

Activity program

On May 30, two different sessions will take place. The morning session will be restricted to the members of the 9 research groups that that form FIET and will be carried out in English. The aim is to establish a dialogue between two experts, Jordi Albó-Canals (Tufts University, USA) and Daniel Spikol (Malmö University, Sweden), “Artificial  Intelligence in Education: Lights and Shadows“,  which will turn the focus on key aspects, from their experience and practice, that are considered promissory or threatening with regards to the application of AI in education. The dialogue will continue with questions or interventions of the researchers from the research groups.

The afternoon session, which will be open to the general public upon pre-registration and payment,  will contain two activities: “Researcher’s Corner” which will focus on the presentation of research from PhD students from various universities, and an “Expert Panel” made up of Ulises Cortés (BSC, UPC), Nardine Osman (IIIA-CSIC), Vicenç Casas (RoboÈtica, Colegio Virgen María de Àngels) and Jordi Albó-Canals (Tufts). The panel, will discuss the following title “Hope or Fear: what can education expect of Artificial Intelligence?“, moderated by journalist Jaume Vilalta and will be held in Spanish and Catalan.
