Now available in Spanish! “Learning narratives with e-portfolios. Digital identity and professional projection” edited by Dr. Lourdes Guàrdia and Dr. Marcelo Maina

Editorial UOC has presented a new book edited by researchers from the Edul@b Research Group, Dr. Lourdes Guàrdia and Dr. Marcelo Maina (Open University of Catalonia) in Spanish, entitled “Learning Narratives with e-portfolios: Digital Identity and Professional Projection”. This work features contributions from numerous national and international authors, who have contributed to the research and writing of the book’s nine chapters.

Description

This book explores the e-portfolio as a key strategy for promoting authentic, reflective, and critical learning at all educational levels. Across nine chapters, it presents innovative experiences and models that integrate competency-based assessment, digital identity, self-regulation, and employability. With a practical and well-founded approach, it addresses emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and microcredentials, while remaining mindful of the ethical dimension of learning. Aimed at teachers and education professionals, this work offers tools to move toward a more connected, inclusive, and student-centered approach to teaching.

Key presence of Edul@b researchers

The book features authors from the Edul@b Research Group: Dr. Lourdes Guàrdia, Dr. Marcelo Maina, and Dr. Ludovica Fanni. Through four chapters, they delve into various topics related to e-portfolios. They introduce the evolution, state of the art, and future of this digital strategy. All of this is done while analyzing online metacognitive pathways and the possibilities for innovation that can be generated from its use. The book also reflects on the synergy between e-portfolios and the implementation of micro-credentials for the assessment and certification of employability skills in university graduates. As the research progresses, a study is presented on the impact of e-portfolios at other educational levels, such as primary and secondary education, where this e-portfolio approach is very helpful in evaluating students’ digital competence.

Dr. Orna Farrell (Dublin City University) delves into the research of e-portfolios as a practice, while Dr. Quelic Berga Carreras, Dr. Laia Blasco Soplón, and Dr. Javier Melenchón Maldonado (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya) contribute with their perspective and experience in developing and using a WordPress-based e-portfolio applied in different university programs. For their part, Dr. Gemma Tur and Dr. Peng Zhang describe the evolution of the e-portfolio in initial teacher training at the Universitat de les Illes Balears, from a metacognitive blog to a co-designed learning strategy.

The final chapter of the book presents “The Use of the e-portfolio in the Learning Process of the Intermediate Vocational Training Cycle in Administrative Management at the Escola Pia de Mataró” by Dr. Estel Paloma Cisa and Dr. Esther Sánchez Ribas, professors at the Escola Pia de Mataró. It is worth noting that Dr. Paloma Cisa is the first PhD in Education and ICT through Edul@b within the Industrial Doctorates Plan, with her dissertation “Model for Evaluating the Development of Entrepreneurial Competence to Promote Sustainability in Compulsory and Post-Compulsory Education,” which was supervised by Dr. Lourdes Guàrdia (Edul@b, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya) and Dr. Màrian Buil-Fabregà (TecnoCampus, Universitat Pompeu Fabra).

This book is part of the “Unleashed Education” collection (in Spanish) from Editorial Uoc, edited by Dr. Albert Sangrà of the Edul@b Research Group, and belongs to the “Digital Transformation in Education” series. This collection includes titles on topics such as the digital transition in schools and myths surrounding EdTech, among others.
