Edul@b hosts the 4th EPICA Consortium Meeting

On July 10 and 11, UOC hosted the fourth international meeting of the EPICA project.

The first day of the meeting, held at the Tibidabo headquarters, was attended by the International Council for Open and Distance Education (the project leader), the UOC team involved in the initiative: Lourdes Guàrdia, Marcelo Maina, Albert Sangrà, and Federica Mancini, the four African universities: the University of Makerere (Uganda), Maseno University (Kenya), the Open University of Tanzania and the African Virtual University (AVU), MyDocumenta, the company that developed the ePortfolio, and ICWE, the German partner in charge of the project dissemination.

During this first day, Josep A. Planell, the Rector of the UOC, and Dr. Bakary Diallo, Rector of the African Virtual University, have exchanged impressions about online education and the work done by AVU in the African continent.

On the second day of the meeting, held at the 22@ UOC building, UOC led a working session on the methodology that will be applied to the pilots. The session was attended also by other two Edul@b researchers: Maite Fernandez and Marta Firestone.

EPICA has reached approximately mid-term project, and the pedagogical, technological and legal requirements of the new platform based on the ePortfolio of MyDocumenta have been just defined. The three African universities and UOC are now working at the definition of the pilot scenarios which will be carried out between January and June 2020 in the four universities mentioned, bringing together between 400-600 students and around 15-20 teachers.
