The main objective of the group is to investigate new ways of teaching and learning in mediated and technologically advanced scenarios, in order to optimise their use by teachers, students, professionals and citizens in general, and to transform society through educational practice.
In order to make this general objective operative, the group’s activities and projects are distributed and sourced in four fundamental lines:
a) Design of learning scenarios and learning resources mediated by ICT
Study the most appropriate design models of learning and innovation and what criteria can help make decisions justified on technology used in the teaching-learning tools and why, in order to suggest improvements in educational practice based on the use of ICT.
b) Collaborative creation of network knowledge
The concept and application of network collaboration is worked as a methodology that facilitates the teaching – learning processes, taking into account the possibilities offered by emerging technologies and the philosophy of joint knowledge construction.
c) Use of ICT for the generation of new learning opportunities
We analyse training actions in the use of ICT for teaching and learning, in order to propose new models and new teaching strategies that respond to the educational needs created for the Information and Knowledge Society (open education, Informal learning, etc.). Digital training needs of students are also studied, sticking to the demands of the network society.
d) Political and organisational frameworks related to leadership and processes of change in the digitisation of education
The process of integrating ICTs into educational institutions is considered as a complex and difficult process of change and implementation, encountering several difficulties and challenges. We face the different characteristics of these difficulties and challenges in order to analyse, evaluate and propose solutions that allow successful results in their application. The leadership of this process and its dimensions is a key element in our research.
The work done in these areas and current trends in education has led us to define a meeting that includes the lines mentioned: learning ecologies. Learning ecologies happen an umbrella (central working concept) that articulates the interests of the different lines of investigation.
Given the group’s willingness to use research in order to make proposals to transform and improve educational practice with the use and application of emerging technologies, quality and innovation, practices of e-learning it will be taken into consideration as a crosscutting research. We understand quality as a multidimensional concept. In this sense, we want to provide a model of quality analysis based on the different perspectives, sectors and areas involved. To do this, we intend to incorporate elements of quality assessment into each research project. This approach will allow us to add the different dimensions of quality in a framework, related to the different dimensions of e-learning, from an integrated perspective and that results in the improvement of all its processes.
